"Self-Portrait", 80" by 80", 2013. This quilt consists of 1,600 2-inch squares of fabric, and some squares contain multiple pieces. This was my first Material Matrix quilt where I established and refined my technique, inspired by the artist Chuck Close. I quilted it "free-motion" on my longarm machine, and it contains many words and expressions that define who I am, thereby making it truly a self-portrait.
